Dental implants are tooth root substitutes that are surgically placed in the jawbone and act as anchors to stabilize artificial teeth. They can replace one, some, or all missing teeth and help eliminate the instability associated with surface adhesives and removable bridges. Individuals with adequate bone level and density who are not prone to infection and can maintain stringent oral hygiene are good candidates for dental implants, according to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

BRIDGE

Can last 10-20 years if well taken care of.

Usually last between 5-8 years

Usually lasts between 8-10 years.

Are integrated with the jaw, so they feel more natural.

Have to be removed before eating.

You can eat with a bridge, but it is not as natural as an implant.

Implants mimic the tooth roots and jaw, therefore, there is no damage to the jaw or surrounding teeth.

Dentures can promote jawbone loss. They can also cause sores in the gums.

Bridges can promote local jawbone loss. When you place a bridge, the adjacent teeth are also shaved down, which damages them.

Excellent cosmetic and functional result.

Cosmetic result only. Dentures can be supported

Excellent cosmetic result. Decent functional result.

TYPES OF IMPLANTS

  • Single tooth implant: Single implants are used when the patient is only missing one tooth. It allows us to restore your smile without damaging the adjacent teeth.
  • Multiple implants: Multiple implants are used when a patient is missing a few teeth. Several implants may be placed, restoring your smile and the function of your teeth.
  • Implant-Supported Denture: For individuals who have no teeth, this may be the best option. Traditional dentures can rub against your gums and create sores. They are also removable. On the other hand, implant-supported dentures are supported by four or more implants. Therefore, they do not rest on the gums and are generally more tolerable and functional. You can eat with them, and they are only removed by your dentist for cleaning.

HERE'S WHY

ABOUT DENTAL IMPLANTS

The benefit of using implants is that they don`t rely on neighboring teeth for support, and are permanent and stable. Dental implants can also be used to attach full or partial dentures.

Implants are a good solution to tooth loss because they look and feel like natural teeth. Implant material is made from different types of metallic and bone-like ceramic materials that are compatible with body tissue. There are different types of dental implants: the first is placed directly into the jaw bone, like natural tooth roots; the second is used when the jaw structure is limited, therefore, a custom-made metal framework fits directly on the existing bone.

The success rate for implants depends on the tooth`s purpose and location in the mouth. The success rate is about 95 percent for those placed in the front of the lower jaw and 85 percent for those placed in the sides and rear of the upper jaw. These rates are continuously improving with the advent of new techniques.
